BACKGROUND

The IR Robertson Reserve is a 30 acre reserve owned by the council and managed by a committee of local residents representative of each of the user groups. The reserve is primarily an equestrian facility but is also used by local residents to exercise their dogs!

Current user groups are:
  • Gisborne Pony Club
  • Gisborne & District Adult Riding Club
  • Victoria Police Mounted Branch
  • Natual Savvy riding group
  • Braemar College Equestrian Team
The buildings and equipment have been built up over the years by the Gisborne Pony Club.  The Gisborne District Adult Riding Club has also contributed to the purchase of equipment and development of facilities.

The Macedon Ranges Shire Council has provided small grant funding to assist the clubs to improve the equestrian facilities with recent improvements being the construction of a 30 metre round yard and widening of the entrance to the cross country grounds.  After 2 years of lobbying and applying for grants we were very excited to receive a substantial grant from the Victorian Government to build our long awaited 2nd and very large sand arena.

The grounds are enjoyed by many horse riders in the local area.
Ground Rules!
Members of the Gisborne Pony Club and the Gisborne District Adult Riding Club, along with James and Tanya Lang do all of the work associated with keeping the grounds in useable condition.  This is many hours of volunteer work.  The grounds are accessible to the wider riding public and individuals are able to use the grounds to train their horses or enjoy their riding.

However, you can help us and contribute by:
  • parking on the gravel areas or under the trees
  • keeping off boggy areas on the sand arenas during wet days
  • staying off cross country jumps during wet weather.
  • donations or attendance at our working bees most gratefully received!!!
  • close all gates behind you
  • picking up your manure when using the arenas and putting it in bins provided
  • being courteous to other riders - children or adult.  Only the Pony Club and Adult Riding club have exclusive rights to the grounds on their rally days.  Individuals using the grounds for lessons DO NOT have exclusive access and must share the area with other riders.
Clubs or groups wanting to use the grounds need to contact the booking officer to make such arrangements.
